The Regional eXchange is a joint project between the 7 core metropolitan local authorities in the West Midlands. It has grown out of a recognition, by the authorities, that the impact of ICT in regional development will be very far reaching.
The 7 have chosen to work collaboratively, for the benefit of the citizens and businesses of the West Midlands to develop new ICT services and solutions.

The previous director of the project Graham Beaumont has been a core member of the EU telecities initiative and is currently the President of UK Digital Cities. Graham has a background in Lifelong Learning and more recently has been the Business and Enterprise Manager for Birmingham furthermore he has been developing the Birmingham City response to the emerging e opportunities. He is currently working closely with the regional development agency Advantage West Midlands (AWM) in managing the development of the regional ICT strategy.

Graham has now moved to task up his new post as Director of Sandwell Learning Plus, an innovative ICT project supporting learning across the borough. A new director for the Regional Exchange is to be appointed shortly - watch this space for news.

The initiative is supported by a group of key policy officers from the local authorities, through whom individual initiatives are developed. The Chair of the group is Nigel Summers, the Chief Executive of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. Nigel is currently driving the C-Plex, the core multimedia development centre for the West Midlands.

This website is one of the key media for the management of the initiative and will be the focus of continuing development over the next 2 years.
